Visiting the Sydney Opera House
The Opera House sits on Bennelong Point, a short walk from Circular Quay in the heart of Sydney. The forecourt is open every day and completely free to explore — you only need a ticket for a performance or a paid tour.
Opening hours
- Forecourt & exterior: open 24 hours, every day.
- Box office: 9:00 – 20:30 daily.
- Guided tours: from 9:00 to 17:00.
- Restaurants & bars: vary by venue; most open from midday.
Tickets
The one-hour guided tour is the most popular way to see inside. Prices start from around £35 per adult, with concessions for children, students and families. Performance tickets vary by venue and production.
Accessibility
The Opera House is fully wheelchair accessible via lifts and ramps, offers assistive listening in the main halls, hosts audio-described and Auslan-interpreted performances, and provides sensory-friendly resources on request.
Best time to visit
Morning light is beautiful on the sails; sunset viewed from a Circular Quay ferry is unforgettable. Weekday visits are quieter than weekends, and mid-week matinees are the easiest way to catch a show without the crowds.
