How to get to the Sydney Opera House

The Opera House stands on Bennelong Point, just a five-minute walk east of Circular Quay — Sydney's central transport hub for trains, buses and ferries. Whichever way you're arriving in Sydney, aim for Circular Quay first.

By train

Take any train on the T2, T3, T8 or T9 line to Circular Quay Station. The Opera House is a flat, well-signposted walk of about 400 m along the harbour promenade.

By ferry

Sydney's ferries all converge at Circular Quay — arriving by water gives you the best first view of the sails. Ferries run from Manly, Taronga Zoo, Darling Harbour, Watsons Bay, Balmain and many other wharves.

By bus

Most CBD bus routes stop at Circular Quay. Look for stops on Alfred Street or on the eastern side of the Quay.

On foot

The walk from Circular Quay to the Opera House forecourt takes about five minutes along East Circular Quay. From the Royal Botanic Garden, follow the harbour path around Farm Cove — one of the most scenic strolls in Sydney.

Taxi & rideshare

Taxis and rideshare vehicles drop off at the top of Macquarie Street, from where a short pedestrian ramp leads to the Opera House.

Parking

The Wilson Parking garage beneath the Royal Botanic Garden is directly under the Opera House, with lift access to the forecourt. Discounted evening rates are available for performance tickets. Central Sydney streets have very limited parking — public transport is nearly always faster and cheaper.
